Ceramic Pottery 1Grades 9-12 (Tool sets are borrowed from school) Student potters will be introduced to hand-building techniques and wheel throwing. Students will engage in sequential learning experiences to grow and improve.

Studio:

The student is the potter; Potters complete deliberate practice to learn and improve clay techniques; Potters control amount of clay; decoration; and glaze; Potters complete a process to create; Potters are motivated to improve their craft; Experimentation, Play and Failure are honored and encouraged to show growth; Potters respect their tools, tools and equipment and exhibit safe studio practice.

Course Description: |
You will generate personal ideas to make original pottery. You will use the process to create authentic pottery. You will work through a variety of units designed to teach you to think like an artist and work as a potter. You will use technology to enhance your knowledge and to share your work. You will learn to work independently by choosing clay methods and decorations to develop your pottery. You will display your pottery on your e-portfolio with an overview statement. You will participate in critiques throughout your piece progression; You will be expected to share your work and develop opinions about the work of others.

*Work Policy: |
The Artistic Thinking Process, E-portfolio and BLOG will be completed for each work of pottery. Learners will be conferenced with or assigned 5th period remediation for work/ practice/ webpage development/ or reflection blogging if all are not completed in a timely manner.

*Blog Reflection: |
Artists will enter a blog post weekly. This will include evidence of learning of materials, processes, and techniques in their learning by deliberate practice/ artwork creation/ artistic thinking process to create works of art; problems and solutions encountered; and their growth as an artist. Blogs will be coded and feedback provided. Grade mapping preferences are in Sapphire. This is an expectation each artist will complete. (This is not to be used or understood as overall grade or a direct reflection of the work accomplished.) This is not to be used as a direct reflection of their accomplished work.)
